Meta-data keeps track of all changes made by mods when installed - and allows changing load order without need to worry about overwrites during installation. Main reason I switched was that with NMM things could get so messed up in the data folder i would need to reinstall too often.
I switched a couple of weeks ago to MO2 and I'm very glad i did.
